Ada came to BHRG from the shelter in Barrow County where she was found as a stray. Ada is a petite 6 year old black and white female. She is a great lap-size basset, weighing only 39 pounds. Ada is looking for a family that doesn't mind caring for her special health needs. She has a herniated disk in her back and seizures that are managed with medication. Ada gets along well with the other hounds in her foster home, and she shows no interest in the cats. She is housetrained with a dog door. Ada loves attention, she loves to give kisses, and she has a great basset howl and bark for such a little girl!

Audrey is around 7 years old and she's housetrained with a dog door. She says "Hello Everyone, My name is Audrey and I'm a sweet little girl who didn't do anything wrong, but my family didn't want me any more. I have freckles all over me, aren’t they a great fashion statement? Now I'm in a wonderful foster home where I play with my foster brother and sister and take sunbaths on the back porch and woo-woo at my foster folks in the front yard 'cause I want to be with them. I run and play and love belly rubs. Wouldn’t you like someone like me to light up your life? Tell ya what, I’ll go pack my bags right now!"

Darby is a 7 month old girl who was dumped at Floyd County animal control by her owners. She is extremely active and really needs a playmate since she runs and plays and runs and plays. As is the case with all pups, she needs a patient home who can teach her some manners. Darby really enjoys squeaky toys.. the more the better. She is housetrained - an expert at the dog door.  She loves to chew anything, but her favorite thing is her rawhide.  She gets along great with kids of any age, and there's not a face out there that she does not love to give a kiss to. This girl is all puppy!

Delta is a red & white female from the Athens shelter. This 12 year old girl was found as a stray running down the runway at the Athens airport - hence the name "Delta". When Delta first came to us, she was ready to give birth, had severe sarcoptic mange (one of the worst cases they had seen), urinary track infection, mastitis, intestional worms, and heartworms. She had so many issues that the vet couldn't decide what to treat first. Most treatment could not be started because it would damage/kill the puppies. She had her pups - nine in all. Over the following several days, six of them died - turns out Delta's milk was bad. At that point, the pups were taken off her and hand fed. In the meantime, another basset that had come in (Millicent) had just given birth to two puppies. Delta's three remaining pups were driven to north Georgia to see if the other basset would take them in as her own. She did, and Delta's three pups survived. Then came the process of getting Delta back to good health. She was quickly put on antibiotics to address the infections. She had to endure six (three are normal) scrapings and dips to overcome the mange. Then came spay surgery and the beginning of heartworm treatment. She is finally healthy! Delta never lost her winning personality through it all. She is super-friendly and loving and will flip for tummy rubs. If you try and make her do something she is not inclined to do, she does the "flat basset" and you have to pick her up. She is not the greatest looking basset, but she is a wonderful girl who needs a forever home about as badly as any basset that has ever come through BHRG.

Ethel is a 5 year old girl who was turned in to a LaGrange shelter along with a male basset who has already found is forever home. Apparently these two were a breeding pair who were no longer useful to their owner. Ethel is red & white and had serious eye problems due to glaucoma. During her spay, the vet also removed a benign tumor from her belly and one of her eyes. Her remaining eye developed glaucoma also, so now Ethel could become totally blind - and to think she was used to breed pups who will have the same problems! Ethel was also very underweight but has fattened up nicely. The condition of this breeding pair of bassets would convince anyone to stop supporting breeders who make puppies for profit - not caring for the health of the parents nor the genetic problems being passed to the pups. She is a classic, lovable doll with the patience of a Saint Basset. Now healthy, Ethel has come into her own and is showing more personality every day. She has completed her heartworm treatment and is feeling frisky. She loves to play "the duck is mine" with the other dogs in her foster home - wagging her tail in a full circle. She has an outstanding singing voice, and when she growls at strangers, she sounds like a 200 pound dog. Ethel is ready for her forever family! ADOPTION PENDING!

Eudora came to BHRG from the shelter in Haralson County where she was dumped by her owners. This girl is red & white and is 2 to 3 years old. Eudora is super-friendly and loves kids. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations and is spayed. Eudora is partially housetrained. She likes just walking around which is why her foster family calls Eudora "Dora the Explorer". When she wants her head rubbed, she will push your hand to the top of her head with her nose. And she loves the belly rubs. She is a very loving dog and is evidently an alpha female. When her foster brother, Porter "House", tried to take her food, he saw very quickly that that wasn't going to happen. Now they act like a married couple. Eudora also gets along fine with cats. She's ready to find a forever family.

Eva is a 10 year-old female basset. She and a dalmation were turned-in to Cobb County Animal Control by their owners because they were moving (?). Eva cried for her family and mourned her separation from them. Eva's need for attention is less now that she is feeling safe. She asks for belly rubs and is even playing with her stuffed toys. Eva is housetrained and uses the dog door. Her foster family calls her "the Diva" because anything that happens is a drama to her - nails, ears, bath. It is just too much for her special Diva-ness. She has a very cool mohawk on the top of her head, which makes her unique-looking. She is quite vocal when happy and at dinnertime. She is protective of her food and needs to be fed separate from the other dogs in her foster home. For this reason, she may not do well with little kids although older ones would be fine. Eva behaves with other dogs but would be happy as an only dog or with other submissive doggies. Although she has a touch of arthritis in her back legs, Eva can handle stairs going up. But she sometimes needs help coming down - which is the cutest thing when you look up the stairs all you see is her face, waiting for you to help her come down. She loves her crate and sleeps in it at night sometimes going to bed before her family. She is really a friendly girl and just soaks up the love that she never had. She has now completed treatment for heartworms and is ready to find a forever family.

Flossie came into the BHRG program from Coweta County and immediately gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies. Flossie is 1-2 years old and is a petite tri-colored basset. When Flossie is not busy parenting her puppies she is a party girl. She loves to race around, entertains herself by throwing around toys up in the air and catching them. She loves to wiggle around on her back showing off her post pregnancy body and plays with her foster family's basset hound and two golden retrievers. Her foster mom loves the fact that Flossie is housebroken and stops and turns around when you call her name. Flossie is loving and affectionate. She is very easy going.

LauraBelle is a 2 year old tri-colored female that was rescued from the Barrow County animal control. She is a sweet girl with a lot of love to give. She is already housetrained with a dog door. Belle gets along well with other dogs and cats, and she loves to sit in your lap and give kisses. Belle has plenty of energy to run in the yard, but she also quickly settles into the recliner for naps and bedtime. Belle has recently been diagnosed with Addison's Disease, a very manageble medical condition. She will require daily medication and periodic vet checkups. Otherwise, she can live a long, healthy life with proper care. So Belle is looking for a forever home willing to care for her medical needs.

Liberty is a tri-colored female who came to BHRG from the shelter in Statesboro. She gets along fine with cats & dogs; however, she is afraid of men. She can be a bit nervous around strange women, but she warms up eventually. It seems to be based on how the other dogs react. Liberty has the bark of a 400 lb dog and loves to eat getting very excited at mealtime - as if it's been years since she last had anything. She would do best in a home with no men and a canine companion. When her foster mom comes home, she does this "yippee you're home" dance which starts with the twist, as in Chubby Checkers, and ends with a straight leap into the air with all four feet coming up at the same time - and she does this with out moving off her pillow! This 3 year old girl is ready to find a family to love forever.

Maddie is a red & white girl who was returned by her adoptive family because they're moving to Europe. This 6 year old girl loves belly rubs and lots of attention. She's not crazy about other dogs and would prefer to be the only dog in her forever home. Maddie loves to roll over for belly rubs and has an irresistable, chubby belly! She is also really smart and knows commands - sit, shake (left & right), speak. Maddie is a cutie and behaves fine with older kids. She really doesn't care much about being outside - only going out to do her potty business and take short walks. She is healthy, housetrained, and knows how to use the dog door. Maddie would be the perfect companion for someone living in an apartment or condo.

Martha is a 9-year-old lady from Upson County. She has completed treatment for heartworms and is now healthy. Miss Martha is red & white and weighs about 35 lbs. She was initially very shy but has become more acclimated in her foster home. She can get excited & then does the scooting in a circle with her tail tucked run. Her foster mom thinks she scares herself and crouches on her belly and/or hides in the bushes. She's learned to walk on a leash and now gets very excited when she sees the leash. Her foster mom says, "Now I know this sounds like I'm making fun of her, but, when she walks, her tail keeps wagging non-stop AND her little boobies swing back & forth, back & forth, tail wags, boobies swing, tail, boobies....well maybe you have to see it". She was not real sure about a doggie bed at first but now she runs to hop on it before anyone else. She prefers a dog biscuit to an oatmeal & raisin cookie. Miss Martha has a very droopy-eyed basset soulful face. This is a very gentle soul and even though she has probably not had an easy time, her foster mom is certain she has alot of potential & will make a great pet. UPDATE: Miss Martha is doing okay with her housetraining, but if you don't get her out every 2 hours, she'll slide over to a corner for some privacy. Of course she's totally apologetic afterwards. She reminds her foster mom of a dog that's spent alot of time caged. She has become much more receptive to petting but gets very uncomfortable with hugs. If she's asleep and you touch her, she jolts up off the bed and immediately starts to run. It takes her a second to realize what's going on. Miss Martha has really gotten into walks. She seems to love running in little spurts - then she stops and barks - then runs some more.

Noni is a beautiful tri-colored female basset who was found wandering around with another dog in Conyers. Her rescuer provided vaccinations for her and posted signs, but no one claimed her. She apparently has had several litters of pups, but is working on regaining her girlish figure. Noni appears to be no older than 5 years old and she is schedukled to be spayed this week. This dignified lady is quiet and has tons of droopy skin on her face and feet, and she has super long ears. We'll post more info as soon as we have it.

Sophia was dumped at Cobb County Animal Control when her owners decided to move and not take her along. This gal is around 6 years old. Sophia is healthy and microchipped. She is overweight but is on the "Biggest Loser" weight reduction program. She enjoys walks around the block and will even try to run. Sophia is a social basset and needs another dog or human companionship in her home since she does not like to be left alone. She loves to ride in the car and she's housebroken. Sophia is not a picky eater and loves almost any food, especially chewy bones, although she can get protective of her food & treats. She also enjoys carrots and raw veggies for snacks. Sophia is not destructive and will not tear up the house. She enjoys other dogs and really craves attention. She'd behave well in an aprtment or condo because she's just one step above "couch potato" - not real active - and she's fairly quiet. This sweet girl really wants a home where she can be included in everything that's happening.

Suzy is a female basset who was turned over to BHRG because her owner is battling a terminal illness and can no longer care for her. Suzy is tan and white with a wonderful temperament. She gets along well with other dogs and loves people. She is housebroken and loves being in the house with her humans. Suzy has a classic basset expression and build; very sturdy and low to the ground. She is currently on a specialized diet because of suspected stomach ulcers and is getting along very well. Suzy is one of those dogs that you just can't help but love; she has absolutely no bad habits or personality problems. Suzy, has been in foster care a long time now and is 12 years old now, but she is certainly spoiled and loved and her foster mom and dad do not mind if she stays forever. She is still on the overweight side but has slimmed down a bit. She gets around pretty well, but she can only do a few stairs due to age and weight. She sleeps downsstairs in one of two soft, special beds (she chooses her favorite of the moment). She loves to bark and gets excited when it is dinnertime or if the neighbor kids come by. She is just super-social and she feels like talking. When she wants something, including love, she will come find her foster mom and paw at her until Suzy gets what she wants. Even though she may not be around many more years, she would certainly give someone much joy.
