Abby was returned to BHRG because her family is losing their home. She was originally part of a litter of pups that came to BHRG along with their basset mama. We thought daddy must have been a boxer, so the pups quickly became known as "the boxer shorts". Abby is housetrained.  She has no problems getting in the dog door. This sweetie is also crate trained. Abby loves running the basset 500 in the house. She is eating well and is adding a little weight so her ribs aren't as visible now. Abby likes to tear APART the little stuffed animal toys. She finds the seam and starts pulling out the stuffing... it's funny.  Abby will sit and chew a rawhide bone for HOURS. She has not met anyone she does not love and gives kisses to and she gets along with everyone - dogs and people. She does like to chase after the bunnies and squirrels in the backyard and she is fast! Abby will make a great addition to your family!! Check out Abby's updated photos!

Amelia is a blanket red & white gal who came to BHRG from the shelter in Douglas County where she was left by her owners. She is around 8 years old and is spayed and up-to-date on her shots. This little girl is a sweetheart and she loves her bed. She is housetrained and gets along great with all sorts of people and with other dogs. If she likes another dog, she has no problem giving them a smooch on the nose. Amelia loves her treats and will let you know that it is time for dinner. However, she does not like thunder or lighthing. She enjoys sleeping on an old recliner in the living room and particularly likes being groomed. This gal is all basset from head to tail.

Annette is an 8 year-old, beautiful mahoganey red & white gal from Pembrook animal control. Annette gave birth to 10 adorable basset pups on April 2. She is an outstanding, caring mother, patient with her brood even when her face says "seriously, 10 puppies?". She has been known to eat lying down when too tired from caring for her pups to get up. She is a truly sweet and affectionate hound, eager to be with people and other dogs, giving a human hand a gentle nuzzle when petted and an occasional paw as a hug. Outside she loves to chase squirrels and birds (hold tight to the leash!) and is fascinated by people walking by, especially children. She's not quite housetrained but is getting there. She will be ready for adoption once her pups are weaned and she is spayed, around the beginning of June.

Autumn is a stray from Bartow County. This tri-colored girl is petite and very sweet. Autumn is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is a bit confused and concerned as to what's happening in her life. Apparently she is a fence climber, so a home with a privacy fence or no fence (with leash walks) would be best for her. She is settling in at her foster home, so we hope to have more info soon.

Beth is 3 years old and was found as a stray in Murray County. In the short time she's been in foster care, she’s proven to be a very friendly and affectionate girl. She must have been someone’s pet at one point because she has excellent house manners and knows some commands. She will come when you call her and sit at your feet when you ask her, at least most of the time. She is housetrained and very comfortable in a crate and will spend time in it willingly. Beth sleeps soundly through the night and gets along well with her foster sister (another basset). She walks well on a leash and doesn’t pull much. Beth is also on the quiet side – she’s only barked a few times so far when she is excited or playing. Beth does show some signs of abuse. She will cower or crouch down when she is given a correction or she may flinch when you make a sudden movement, but she snaps out of it quickly once she remembers that she is safe now. Beth needs a cat-free home with a privacy fence, or a family who is willing to walk her because she is able climb chain link fences. Beth is spayed, up to date on shots and has completed treatment for heartworms. She is ready for adoption today! ADOPTION PENDING!

  • Chad & Allison Carter - Marietta, GA. For Rosco who was saved by BHRG, thank you.

Bethany needs a foster home! She was picked up as a stray by Floyd County animal control. She is red & white and is around 4 years old. Bethany tested positive for heartworm and will begin treatment once she recovers from spay surgery. We will post more information as it becomes available.

Blanche is a 1 1/2 year old girl who was dumped in a BHRG volunteer's yard. This tri-colored girl is up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped, spayed, and ready to find a forever home. She has gained some weight and is filling out slowly but surely. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home. She enjoys bones which she almost always needs to have around because she's a chewer. And she loves squeaky toys. We are still working on housebreaking. She's getting accustomed to the dog door and will go out at will but doesn't care to if it's raining. She's already a tad bit spoiled. ADOPTION PENDING!

  • The Samuel Family - Cumming, GA. In honor of Rufus & Lucy, in memory of Reagan (BHRG rescue 2004).

BobbieJean is a 10 year-old spayed female who was adopted from BHRG when she was 2 years old. Now her family is divorcing and no one is able to take BobbieJean with them. She is getting settled in her foster home, so we hope to have more details coming soon.

Bubbles needs a foster home! She is a tri-colored girl who was siezed from her owners due to severe neglect. She is quiet, loving, and seems to be housetrained. She needs to put on some weight because she only weighs 26 lbs. Bubbles tested positive for heartworms and is undergoing treatment at a BHRG vet. We'll have more info once she is placed in foster care.

  • David Bishop - Brunswick, GA. In memory of Meg, who went to the bridge February 9, 2009, after we spent 13 great years together. For all the needy homeless hounds at BHRG - that they too may spend many years in a happy forever home. They all deserve this kindness!

Eleanor says, "Hi Everybody! I'm 6-year-old Eleanor, but my new foster family calls me Elle. Isn't this the most darling photo you've ever seen and I'm even betterer in person! I used to belong to a Gordon County backyard breeder but after nearly starving me and taking away as many of my babies as he could, he throwed me away. I now live with 3 foster brothers and our parents and have a warm bed and I discovered what a 'couch' is (it's soft and warm!) and I'm beginning to learn what 'playing' is. I have a lovely yard to nose around in and I have a great appetite since you can see almost every bone in my body. I do so want to please so they don't throw me away too, but the other fosters told me that doesn't happen - I'll get adopted and go to a Forever Family - I'm all excited! I'm spayed and up to date on all my shots and even my ears are clean. I walk well on a leash and riding in a car is really fun. Won’t you consider adding me to your family so I can bring a smile to you every single day? I’ll go pack my stuff."

Eloise was found as a stray in Lumpkin County. In the short time she has been in her foster home, she has been found to be loving, gentle, and sociable. She really loves cuddling - and so will you for her fur is very soft. When she meets her people after an absence, she greets them with a series of barks modulating to low moans which flow into a series of whimpers then ending in a sweet kiss. She is up-to-date on her shots, is spayed, and is microchipped. She doesn't have other dogs, kids, or cats in her home, but she seems to get along fine with everyone she meets. Eloise does not like the noise associated with vacuum cleaners, washers, or dryers, so please plan to do your cleaning when she is having a spa day or is out to lunch with friends. This gal is housebroken with a dog door, enjoys walks, rides well in the car, and loves to sniff around in the back yard. Eloise is around 6 years old and is ready to find a forever home.

Eva is a 10 year-old female basset. She and a dalmation were turned-in to Cobb County Animal Control by their owners because they were moving (?). Eva cried for her family and mourned her separation from them. Eva's need for attention is less now that she is feeling safe. She asks for belly rubs and is even playing with her stuffed toys. Eva is housetrained and uses the dog door. Her foster family calls her "the Diva" because anything that happens is a drama to her - nails, ears, bath. It is just too much for her special Diva-ness. She has a very cool mohawk on the top of her head, which makes her unique-looking. She is quite vocal when happy and at dinnertime. She is protective of her food and needs to be fed separate from the other dogs in her foster home. For this reason, she may not do well with little kids although older ones would be fine. Eva behaves with other dogs but would be happy as an only dog or with other submissive doggies. Although she has a touch of arthritis in her back legs, Eva can handle stairs going up. But she sometimes needs help coming down - which is the cutest thing when you look up the stairs all you see is her face, waiting for you to help her come down. She loves her crate and sleeps in it at night sometimes going to bed before her family. She is really a friendly girl and just soaks up the love that she never had. She has now completed treatment for heartworms and is ready to find a forever family.

FannieMae is a beautiful, 6-year-old lady who was being boarded at her vet due to her owner's long-term illness. She has allergies and receives shots twice a month in hot weather and once a month in cool weather. She is spayed and up to date on all her shots. Fannie Mae is sweet, not aggressive, civilized on a leash, and easy to take on car rides. She loves people and would be happy as an only dog. Fannie Mae is microchipped and AKC registered. She had an ugly but benign cyst removed and is ready for a loving home.

Fergie is a 5 year-old, tri-colored basset who came to BHRG from Columbia County animal control. She tested positive for heartworms and has completed treatment. Fergie has really come out of her shell in her foster home.  She has learned that people can be trusted to give belly rubs and no longer cowers when a hand comes near her.  In fact, she loves being petted all over by people of all ages. She really likes the neighborhood kids and looks forward to their visits. Fergie is a low-maintenance hound who just wants a soft bed, some yummy treats, and an occasional belly rub. Fergie is crate-trained and housetrained.  One of Fergie’s favorite things is to “wiggle” at her foster parents so they will jump at her and play.  Her eyes light up with excitement any time her foster parents play the wiggle game.  Her foster mom loves to sleep on the couch with her because Fergie pretends to be a pillow and will snuggle. She is a beautiful girl looking for a forever home that will rub her belly, give her good food and water, and make sure she is never cold again. Fergie walks well on a leash, is quiet, and very well-behaved.  If you are looking for a calm, quiet houndie Fergie is for you! Check out Fergie's updated photos!

Idola came to BHRG from Spalding County where she was picked up as a stray with Ina. This gal is around 6 years old. She is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and healthy. Idola is a very kind dog, loves to play with the other dogs, and even does well with cats. But she will "counter surf" for goodies when given the chance. She needs an understanding home that will take time for her. Idola can be a barker, and is very scared right now. When she thinks that she is in trouble for something, she will hunker down and start scream barking thinking that she will be beaten. She is starting to come out of her shell and would do great with other dogs. She does need a home without children. She is crate-trained, but would recommend only using a crate for feeding or sleeping. Idola snores a lot and loud, so she needs a family that doesn't mind a loud snoring dog... kinda funny though.

Ina came to BHRG from Spalding County where she was picked up as a stray. She is up-to-date on vaccinations and is spayed. Ina is probably a little older than middle aged. She is very quiet... her foster mom has never heard her bark. Ina loves to be outside but only to lay around. She doesn't jump on furniture and isn't the least bit distructive - shoes are safe around her.  She has obviously been abused in the past and her body shows that she has had more than her fair share of puppies. When she first arrived in foster care, the garbage can scared her, she jumped when her foster mom stood up, etc., but she has really made a big turn around. At her first adoption event, she was very friendly and let everyone pet her. Some love and security has really made a difference in the life of this sweet girl. Ina behaves fine with other dogs, with cats, and with children who visit. She doesn't really care for treats; however, she will eat biscuit type treats after a while. This gal is not a cuddler, but she doesn't jump either. She does get excited when foster mom comes home and likes to play some. But she is just very low key and low mantainance. She doesn't demand but she does appreciate a good petting - sometimes singing when being petted. She prefers to be indoors and usually under the coffee table sleeping. She is working on housetraining - she goes to the door to let me know when she wants out and quickly comes back to the door when she is done. She sleeps in the crate while her foster mom is not home.

Liberty is a tri-colored female who came to BHRG from the shelter in Statesboro. She gets along fine with cats & dogs; however, she is afraid of men. She can be a bit nervous around strange women, but she warms up eventually. It seems to be based on how the other dogs react. Liberty has the bark of a 400 lb dog and loves to eat getting very excited at mealtime - as if it's been years since she last had anything. She would do best in a home with no men and a canine companion. When her foster mom comes home, she does this "yippee you're home" dance which starts with the twist, as in Chubby Checkers, and ends with a straight leap into the air with all four feet coming up at the same time - and she does this with out moving off her pillow! This 3 year old girl is ready to find a family to love forever.

Maddie is a red & white girl who was returned by her adoptive family because they're moving to Europe. This 6 year old girl loves belly rubs and lots of attention. She's not crazy about other dogs and would prefer to be the only dog in her forever home. Maddie loves to roll over for belly rubs and has an irresistable, chubby belly! She is also really smart and knows commands - sit, shake (left & right), speak. Maddie is a cutie and behaves fine with older kids. She really doesn't care much about being outside - only going out to do her potty business and take short walks. She is healthy, housetrained, and knows how to use the dog door. Maddie would be the perfect companion for someone living in an apartment or condo.

Miriam is a female basset who was found by a local man. She is 6 to 7 years old and has recovered from spay surgery and hernia repair. She says, "Hello.  My name is Miriam but my Foster Parents call me Mae or Mae-Mae and I really like that.  My name should have been Joan because, “Can we talk?”  I like to talk to you and be talked to.  I also like your hands on me.  I like to be where you are.  I love my play sand!  I like other dogs but would be happy with one as a companion or be the only, center of attention dog.  I am a slow eater.  I like inside and outside and am good on a leash..  Oh yeah, I also have a cat.  I follow her just to hear her hiss at me.  It makes me laugh.  I like kids, belly rubs and treats for being such a good girl and I come when called.  I am petite at 41.3 lbs, 4 yrs and 5 months young, have been spayed and have all my shots.  I am precious, just look at me!".

Pebbles was confiscated from a breeder in Butts County. She is 2 years old and is red & white. She says, "Hello friends! I want to start out by saying thanks to all you kind humans who have donated money on my firstgiving page to help my puppies and me. All of my babies went on to their forever homes and are blissfully happy. I'm currently living in a wonderful foster home with my foster dad, grown foster brother, and with my favorite person ever, my foster mom! I'm also lucky enough to live with three houndie foster brothers and a houndette foster sister. We get along great and have a rollicking good time playing games like alligator mouth and Basset 500. We also enjoy playing with all the toys our fo ster parents spoil us with (the sad puppy look works like a charm every time!). As for me, I'm still pretty shy but I'm getting better and more trusting every day. I've been known to run outside whenever one of you tall, 2-legged humans stand up but with some nice words I'll be back in no time. I even allow my foster parents the priviledge of eating out of their hands and petting my soft fur. I'm not so skinny anymore more and still working on gaining some more pounds for a curvaceous bod. I'm also pleased to report that my training on foster mom has been going well. In the morning, she knows that we hounds can't start out on the right paw without a cupful of treats. At meal time, she always fixes me a peanut butter sandwhich to go with my doggy food; because peanut butter is a favorite of American humans and this hound alike. Foster mom and I get along so well that sometimes I come and sit by her on the couch or lie at her feet while she surfs the web. She gets a real kick out of telling me how pretty, sweet, and soft that I am and petting me. She says she doesn't like the person who used to own me and made me scared of people, but this foster family showed me how great (and well-trained) humans can be!"

Poppy says, "Hello, My name is Poppy and I am a princess!  Can't you tell?   I am a tri-colored beauty who is 4 to 5 years old, petite (30 lbs.) healthy, spayed, up-to-date on everything, and looking for a forever home.  Here are my requirements:  a little bit of food, soft bed to rest on after a long day, someone to  love and slobber on, belly rubs, a few treats, big water bowl, and a bath every so often to keep me squeaky clean!  Here's another bonus- my coat is soft, smooth and silky and DOESN'T SHED!  Here are a few words from my Foster Mom...(she's my biggest fan!)".  Poppy is a very smart girl who is kind, gentle and loving.  When I brought her home from the kennel, she learned to use the dog doors to do her potty business outside in just one afternoon.  She is very smart and learns very quickly as she is very anxious to please you.  Poppy gets along famously with her foster sister (they even share their rawhide bones) and with all other canine fur friends (not sure about cats).   She has shown no aggression towards or about anything.  At night, she loves curling up on her sofa bed or the couch and will sleep thru the night without moving.  Happy and content would aptly describe her!  Although she was picked up as a stray, it does look like she has been bred a few too many times as her belly is not as firm as it could be. All in all, she has been perfect in my home and has been both a joy and a pleasure.  Once she walked in, she acted like she has lived here forever!  She is a precious petite girl who would be great on her own or with another furry friend. Basically, she is irresistible!

Sophia is around 7 years old. Sophia is healthy and microchipped. She is overweight but is on the "Biggest Loser" weight reduction program. She enjoys walks around the block and will even try to run. Sophia is a social basset and needs another dog or human companionship in her home since she does not like to be left alone. She loves to ride in the car and she's housebroken. Sophia is not a picky eater and loves almost any food, especially chewy bones, although she can get protective of her food & treats. She also enjoys carrots and raw veggies for snacks. Sophia is not destructive and will not tear up the house. She enjoys other dogs and really craves attention. She'd behave well in an aprtment or condo because she's just one step above "couch potato" - not real active - and she's fairly quiet. This sweet girl really wants a home where she can be included in everything that's happening.

Tegan needs a foster home! She is a very nice, red & white lady who came from the Bainbridge Humane Society. She is up-to-date on her shots and was treated for hookworms and heartworms. This 4 year old girl is has very irritated skin that the vet suspects is either from the worms, poor diet or both. She is very sweet and loves human attention. She is food aggressive - possibly due to her situation with her old pit bull backyard companion, so a home with older children would be best. Tegan needs a cat-free home, and she wants to be the dominant doggie in the household. She would probably do best as a single hound or with a submissive dog. Tegan has a gimpy leg that the vet believes was broken at one point and never recieved proper vet care to set it correctly and it healed straight. She cannot bend it but it doesn't stop her from running, walking or going up and down stairs. She is a happy girl so long as she is not itching. She is waiting for a foster home at a local kennel.

Virginia needs a foster home! She is a red & white, 4 to 5 year-old girl who was found as a stray. Virginia is healthy and ready to find a home. She can be a bit bossy with other dogs at adoption events, but that could just be stress-related. She likes her own space. However, Virginia is super-submissive with people and behaves well with kids. She's a little gal with very soft fur. Virgnia is waiting for a foster home at a local kennel. We'll post more details once she is placed in foster care.
